We’re almost there! During Rush, everyone likes to talk about being “on fire” for Jesus, so I have a request: Picture your hopes and dreams for Rush as marshmallows. It’s the perfect week to make s’mores, right?

News flash: you can’t roast marshmallows with fire.

Firestarters (think Rush, retreats, etc.) burn brightly, but aren’t great for cooking. Stick a marshmallow into that kind of fire, and it does nothing or completely burns up. And that kind of fire won’t last very long.

However, if you very intentionally feed sticks and logs into that short-lived blaze, and give it time to stabilize and burn, you get something that, while not as exciting or bright, is quite beautiful: red-hot coals. And that is what you use to cook marshmallows.

So, what are you fueling your fire with?

If you want the coals of an intimate relationship with Jesus, you need to be intentional about feeding your fire. This devotional is designed to remind you what good fuel looks like: things like prayer, humility, faithfulness, and especially reading God’s Word, which you will do every day.

My hope and prayer for Rush Servant Team is that we would be like the people in Psalm 1 (it’s short, go read it!). That, through abiding in Jesus and His Word (John 15:1-17) and relying on Him as our source of life, we would be able to produce good fruit (or in this case, good s’mores), and be really, truly Alive.
